Background
Nu-Way Weiners was founded on February 27, 1916, when Greek immigrant James Mallis opened a hot dog stand on Cotton Avenue in downtown Macon. The name “Nu-Way” was chosen to do something different, and the company’s trademarked, intentionally misspelled neon sign was hung in 1937. More than a century later, Nu-Way still serves the same secret-recipe chili sauce and private-label wieners that made it famous, with its slogan “I’d Go a Long Way for a Nu-Way.” The company has served well over 200 million wieners and operates several locations across Central Georgia.
