The Woodward Hotel

The Woodward Hotel is an independent, locally owned boutique hotel in historic downtown Macon, Georgia. Housed in a restored 19th-century building, the property offers nine individually designed rooms and a literature-inspired theme throughout.

The Experience

The Woodward pairs historic architecture with modern, contactless hospitality, featuring:

  • Nine unique rooms, including junior queens, king rooms, a double-queen room, and a wheelchair-accessible king room, several with balconies overlooking the rooftop patio
  • Rooms appointed with local fine art, vintage books, designer furniture and linens, and details like antique pressed-tin ceilings
  • Quill, a ground-floor craft cocktail bar with a marble bar and wood ceiling
  • A rooftop patio with lounge furniture, a fire table, and shade sails

Located on the corner of Second Street and Mulberry Street Lane, the hotel is within walking distance of downtown Macon’s restaurants, live-music venues, and historic theaters.

Background

The Woodward is independently owned, designed, and staffed by people who live in Macon, and the property reflects a focus on community, the arts, and local history. It is named for the proprietor’s grandfather, Dr. Benjamin Woodward Griffith, Jr., a professor of English, folklorist, writer, and World War II Navy veteran, which inspired the hotel’s nods to Southern literature in each room and in the bar.
